The Governor has accepted the proposals.
regarding audit salaries vide No.2 on this file.
As regards the salary of Assistant Auditors
on transfer, Sir J. Harding's proposal in paragraph
8(a) of his Memo (No.5A on the 1936 file) is sub-
stantially in accordance with the way in which things
are moving at present. I have in fact on another
file (20578/36) which is circulating separately,
suggested that the arrangements for affixing the
salaries of officers on transfer in time-scale posts
might be reduced to a general formula, and if the
proposals which I have put forward are accepted
Sir J. Harding's point would be substantially met.
Pending a general decision Sir J. Harding
might be informed that he is at liberty in recommending
Assistant Auditors transfer to Hong Kong to propose
that their initial salaries shall be settled in the
manner in which he suggests.
